Big Ben

Located in the north end of the Palace of Westminister, Big Ben is one of London`s most famous icons. The clock was constructed on April 10, 1858. It measures 96.3 meters high.\n\nThe clock is known for its accuracy and had little need for correction since it was constructed. The clocking mechanism relies on a double three-legged gravity escapement. This escapement provides the best separation between pendulum and clock mechanism. The pendulum is installed in a windproof box sunk beneath the clockroom. Although the clockwork weighs 5 tone, the weight of a single penny can offset the clock`s speed by 0.4 seconds per day.
