Pyramids of Dahshur

Dahshur pyramids were built at the time of Sneferu (2613-2589 BC), who was the father of Khufu, the founder of the 4th dynasty. The first pyramid built was the Bent Pyramid, named after its shape which changes angles from 54 degrees to 43 degrees half way through. This was an engineering flaw, as the engineer realized that if he had continued on a 54 degree angle, the stress from the weight of the structure would have caused it to collapse. Having learned from his mistake, the second attempt resulted in the construction of the Red Pyramid. The Red Pyramid is the oldest true pyramid which still stands to this day. Read more ...
